Notes:
The branding concept uses the wave as it is a powerful symbol and its very essence is motion and movement. This dynamic icon represents the ocean and the Pacific. The way the wave is presented also makes it look like open and closed quotation marks, symbolising communication and dialogue. Textures or motifs from the Pacific has been used within the symbol. These motifs and elements are taken from Micronesian, Melanesian and Polynesian tapa, tattoo and Lapita pottery designs.

Lastly, the shape of the two waves meeting each other embodies human connectivity. From a metaphorical point of view, these two interlocking waves could also represent the yin and yang, the balance between all Pacific people and their cultures.

Work status:
Freelance design work (The Greenhouse Studio)

Task/s:
Conceptualize, design and layout the Market Development Facility's (MDF) identity and branding. This includes the logo, business cards, letterheads, compliments cards, e-mail signatures and the identity guidelines.

Application/s:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign

Client:
The Market Development Facility (MDF) is a 2-year, AusAID-funded initiative designed to create 2,500 jobs and increase incomes by at least 15% for 40,000 poor households. The project works through market facilitation, rather than direct intervention, to create jobs and increase incomes for poor households.

Notes:
As MDF is funded by AusAID and managed by Cardno, there were already existing strict branding guidelines from these two agencies that MDF had to adhere to. Creative branding solutions were generated around these existing guidelines, like for example, there are two versions of the letterheads (A4 size) as well as the compliments cards - the formal and informal version. These versions were designed to cater to specific types of audiences.

A mark or symbol was created for MDF that is consistently applied in various media. This symbol encapsulates the boldness and innovativeness of MDF, and signifies its role in establishing collaboration and dialogue between specific businesses, markets and partners.

Work status:
Freelance design work

Task/s:
Conceptualize, design and layout the 'Lakovi' book. 'Lakovi'. Lakovi is a play in Fijian Language written by Apolonia Tamata and Larry Thomas. "It is a 90 minute drama which focuses on a typical Fijian family of today facing the social complexities of living a lifestyle where there are choices to make between culture and modernisation. The main plot centres on the daughter who has been asked for traditionally to marry a young man serving in the British army. The boy in contrast has been raised in a Fijian Village setting."

Application/s:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign

Client:
iTaukei Trust Fund Board
The Fijians Trust Fund Board (FTFB) was established by government in 2001 to invest capital funds in authorized investments for charitable purposes. The beneficiaries of Fijians Trust Fund are the indigenous Fijians and Rotumans and their institutions determined by the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) of Fiji.

Notes:
The design concept centres around the story and its meaning. The cover which illustrates the word 'Lakovi' in between the two main characters signifies their featured relationship and more importantly, the dichotomy between tradition and modernisation in the present Fijian society. To further represent this, traditional tapa symbols are depicted in a contemporary manner throughout the book.

Photography was done by Jason Chute of jcphotography.

If you are interested to buy this book, it is available at the Fijians Trust Fund and costs F$10.

Work status:
Freelance design work

Task/s:
Conceptualize, design and layout the annual report.

Application/s:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign

Client:
USP
The University of the South Pacific (USP) is the premier provider of tertiary education in the Pacific region and an international centre of excellence for teaching, research consulting and training on all aspects of Pacific culture, environment and human resource development needs.

Notes:
This year, USP approached me again to design their Annual Report like I did last year. The concept and theme of this year's report is inspired by the distinctive shapes, geometric patterns and anthropomorphic figures found on the pottery of the Lapita people. They are believed to be the common ancestors of the Polynesians, Micronesians and Austronesian-speaking Melanesians.

Photography was done by Jason Chute of jcphotography.
